Statewide knife preemption limits the authority of municipalities to regulate the purchasing, possessing, transferring, owning, carrying, transporting, selling and storing of knives. SB 96 added knives to West Virginia’s definition of “deadly weapons” for purposes of statewide preemption. Effective today (May 31, 2020) West Virginia joins the states that make sure there is no patchwork of knife laws in their state to confuse law-abiding individuals.
