The American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) is pleased that HB 1224, which would repeal Washington State’s prohibition on the manufacture, sale, and possession of automatic knives, is set for its first hearing in the House Committee on Civil Rights & Judiciary next week.

For several years, AKTI has been part of a coalition of knife manufacturers and other organizations pushing for knife reform in The Evergreen State. HB 1224 is the product of that work and reflects a reasonable overhaul of Washington’s outdated ban on automatics, commonly known as switchblades. The bill was introduced by Rep. Kelly Chambers (R-Puyallup) and has already attracted nine other bipartisan cosponsors, reflecting the wide range of support for repealing these antiquated prohibitions.
