(January 30, 2012) – Last year we reported on AKTI’s efforts in the withdrawing of Washington State HB 1006 introduced by Rep. Appleton. This bill would have made it illegal to carry concealed any knife with a blade 3-1/2 inches or longer. It was stopped early in the legislative process and no committtee hearing was ever held on it.
There seems to be confusion that some people believe this bill has been reintroduced with the intent to pass it. In Washington state the “reintroduced and retained” language is merely a housekeeping procedure as they carry prior legislation forward. AKTI expected to see this bill on Washington’s 2012 legislative books as normal procedure, and that it will die its natural legislative death the end of this year.
