Over the last year, Microtech has been ramping up the resources allocated to fighting counterfeit products. With the help of in-house legal counsel, Daniel Lawson, the company is beginning to see the results of intensive anti-counterfeit efforts. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has recently detained several sizeable shipments en route to the US from China that contained counterfeit products branded with the Microtech trademark.
Lawson brings 15 years of experience in advocating for fair knife legislation alongside AKTI. “Our goal,” Lawson says, “is to be proactive.” For Microtech, proactivity is a multi-step process. By providing Customs Officials the tools to assist in identifying our brand markings, we begin to eliminate an influx of illegitimate products in the market place. Alerting consumers to be wary of knives branded as Microtech that are sold by unauthorized vendors, at prices that are too good to be true, offers protection for our brand and our customers from these trademark infringements. Enhancements made to our packaging in 2014 feature unique serialized barcodes that can be scanned with the Microtech app to provide additional security. We feel these elements are crucial to fostering the growth of the knife industry.
Microtech prides itself in being able to manufacture a 100% American-made product that is crafted from the finest materials, hand-finished, and delivered at an unprecedented level of quality. The quality of these unlawful reproductions does not meet the fit, finish, and reliability standards put forth by Microtech. We will continue to pursue justice in the fight against counterfeits not only for the security of our brand, but for our customers, and the industry as a whole.
