In 2023, Nebraska passed sweeping legislative reforms regarding the carrying of knives and other weapons. The bill was signed by the Governor in the first half of 2023. However, as the bill was working its way through the legislative process, a number of municipalities indicated that they would take legal steps to prevent the bill from applying in their towns. All but two ceased protesting once the bill was made into law. These two municipalities have issued various executive orders limiting the carry of knives and other items on municipal property. The matter will be litigated. As of December 2023, the cases have not been filed in court, and the applicability of the new law remains unclear.
Representatives of AKTI have spoken directly with the law’s author about this matter and will update this page as new information becomes available.
Out of an abundance of caution, and a desire to prevent knife owners from being involuntary legal test subjects, individuals carrying knives in Nebraska that were illegal before the 2023 law change should consult with a local Nebraska legal authority before carrying today.
