Knife Preemption Bill Filed in Mississippi
(April 15, 2014) – Unfortunately neither of these bills were acted upon this session. Please be prepared to take action next year.
(January 23, 2014) – Mississippi State Representative John L. Moore (R-60) introduced HB 687. This bill would prohibits political subdivisions (cities, counties, etc. in Mississippi) from enacting restrictions on the possession, use and manufacture of knives. This bill has been referred to the House Judiciary B Committee.
Elimination of Certain Knives and Knife Preemption
HB 897 also introduced by Rep. Moore would also prohibit any municipality, county or any other political subdivision in Mississippi from adopting or enacting any resolution or ordinance, rule or tax relating to knives plus would remove “bowie knife, dirk knife, butcher knife and switchblade knife” from the concealed weapon provision; and amend section 97-37-19, Mississippi code of 1972. This bill has been referred to the House Judiciary B Committee and the House Committee on Ways & Means.
