Another effort to prohibit local knife ordinances in Kentucky
(February 12, 2015) – Kentucky Senate Bill 146 was introduced by Senator Robin Webb (D-18). If passed SB 146 would:
- Prohibit any unit of local government from having local knife control ordinances
- Require repeal of any local knife ordinance within six (6) months of the law’s effective date, and
- Provide that parties may sue if there are violations and be awarded reasonable attorney’s fees and costs.
This is essentially the same statewide knife preemption legislation Senator Webb introduced in 2013 and 2014. Senator Webb is a leader in the Kentucky Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation who understands the value of knives to outdoor activities. Let’s help her get it passed this year!
This bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on State and Local Government. This is the same committee where the 2013 bill died. Contact them NOW to ask for support.
