American Knife & Tool Institute
Las Vegas, NV….January 19, 2010. In the midst of a very busy SHOT Show schedule, the American
Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) gathered at the Kershaw booth on Monday. Mr. Koji Endo, President and
CEO of Kai, Kershaw’s corporate entity graciously drew the winner of a one-of-a-kind Kershaw
SpecBump.
Individual members who renewed or joined AKTI from May 15 until December 30th were eligible to win
the knife donated by Kershaw President and CEO Jack Igarashi, a member of the AKTI Board of
Regents.
“I’m astonished to win, but especially delighted to see AKTI’s recent successes on behalf of all knife
owners,” responded winner Hugh Carnes of Tennessee, Ambassador member #A001364, when he
was notified by phone.
The American Knife & Tool has been actively changing knife legislation since 1998, including laws in
California, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas and Texas. Most recently the seemingly impossible task of
changing the Federal Switchblade Law was accomplished by the AKTI-led effort with help from other
organization and many individuals assured that folding knives with a bias toward closure would not be
classified as switchblades.
